Brasstown Bell Newsletter – Jan 2023

Hello Friends of the Brasstown Community Center,

Wishing all of you nothing but good things in 2023! Tomorrow evening at 6:30pm we will host our first community potluck of the year, please come and join us. Bring a dish to share and come meet your friends and neighbors in Brasstown – this is a family-friendly event – bring everybody!

I might be a little early, but the NC Extension Cooperative and your local 4H club are already talking about preparing your garden, and planning for Summer Camp. Check out their newsletters on the county website.

We appreciate all your support and participation in the life of the Brasstown Community Center. If anyone is interested in putting out a monthly newsletter to keep people informed of the events taking place at the community center, please respond to this email and we will show the ropes!

Your Brasstown Bell Crier.

2022 Special Project – Helping Hands

Hello friends of the Brasstown Community Center,

May 2022 – Thanks to a grant in late 2021 from the Community Foundation of WNC to build an outdoor pavilion between the doors of the “schoolhouse” annex. The pavilion is part of our Helping Hands project that could be used to distribute food to families in need. We will partnering up with others to make this happen in 2022!

This new structure could also be used for outdoor potluck dinners, concerts, and other events when social distancing is required. We are happy to report that the work has begun in the smallest way by digging up the areas needed for cement foundations! As the work continues, we will update this post…

July 2022 – We want to thank Greg Teems, his son Tyler and daughter Mavis (site supervisor!), and Abraham Patrick for their hard work during the construction of this beautiful addition to the Community Center. And thank you Clay Logan for coordinating the work, getting and paying for supplies and keeping us organized!

There are a few finishing touches – indoor-outdoor carpet, electrical connections, trim work around the fans on the annex building, and a picnic table – to complete this project, but we are so pleased to have this part of the project completed.

August 2022 – The safety lattice and fans are installed and painted and the construction of the pavilion is COMPLETE!

December 2022 – In agreement with our grant partner, the Clay County Senior Center, and the NC Extension office food preservation projects that serve members of our community have been funded as a part of this Helping Hands project.

Thank you to the Community Foundation of WNC for the grant that made this project possible, thank you to the volunteers that donate their time, equipment and expertise for parts of this project, thank you to the hired contractors for all of their hard work, and thank you to our project manager – his dedication to the community center is greatly appreciated.
