Summer will soon be upon us with all those fun outdoor activities. It is also the month of our Second scheduled Concert. This month, on Saturday, June 7th we will once again be entertained by the Gladson Family Band. They are a talented family who are always a joy to hear. Once again doors open at 6 pm and the concert commences at 7 pm. The kitchen opens at 6 pm in the event you want to grab a quick dinner and of course some cobbler and ice cream. Admission is ten dollars. Children under 12 are free. Tickets will also be available for our beautiful quilts. This year there are two beautiful quilts that will go to the winning ticket. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.
We have been very fortunate to have new community volunteers who will be assisting our kitchen crew. Thank you Karen Sullivan and Karen Ruggiero. We sincerely appreciate your help. Those extra sets of hands help take the stress off of the kitchen staff and helps make the tasks fun. We are so happy to have you!
Don’t forget about our monthly pot lucks hosted at our center on the third Tuesday of the month, June 17th. Pack up your family and your favorite side dish or dessert to share with the community.
Our May Pot Luck was attended by about fifty community members. While the food is usually always good, it was “especially” good this month. We had some wonderful fresh salads served and some different and delicious casseroles. It was good to see everyone. It was an especially pleasant evening. One of our attendees reminded us of the Brasstown Farmer’s Market held on Wednesdays from 9-1. That market is really growing and offers a wide variety of items to the public.
Our Pantry continues to operate every other Thursday from 11:30-1:00 pm. Matt’s Ministry and the Clay County Food Pantry supplies the food on alternating Thursdays. These pantries continue to be well attended May 1st we had 53 people attend and they selected food for 127 family members. On May 15th 60 people attended and selected food for 126 family members On May 29th we had 49 people attend and they selected food for 114 family members. Anyone who is experiencing food insecurity is encouraged to attend. If you are unable to attend our pantries, be aware that The Clay County Food Pantry is opened on Fridays from 9 am until 12 pm. Matt’s Ministry is opened on Saturdays from 9:30 until 12:00 pm.
Our Community Food Bank will be open on June 12th and June 26th. Once again Mrs Perrell from the Clay and Macon Counties Co-Operative Extension Services will be with us. She supplies us with a delicious and healthy recipe made from food we will have available to us on June 12th that we can taste test. Additionally she is always kind enough to share copies of her recipes with all who attend. Looking forward to seeing you at these pantries.
We have been so blessed at these pantries to have community volunteers who come week after week. Everyone pitches in to get the pantry set up after the food is delivered by Manna. They are warm caring folks who make our shoppers feel welcome. Its so nice to see their smiling faces. Without their help these pantries wouldn’t happen.
I’m not sure if everyone is aware that our community center and school house building are available for the community to rent for special occasions. Our School House Building rents for $50.00. Our Gymnasium including our kitchen ,if you need it, is available for $80.00 for community members. If someone wants to rent it for a commercial event the cost is $140.00. Our kitchen is also available for rentals. There is a four hour minimum rental of $25.00, and a $5.00 an hour charge for use over the four hours. If anyone is interested in renting our facility, please call Mrs. Pam Cray at (828)361-3040. The money received from these rentals goes to the costs of running and maintaining our Community Center.
Your Executive Board is continuing to work on the purchase of new front doors. The contractor has been generous enough to offer the doors at his cost. It is however believed that even with this kind gesture the doors will be expensive but are certainly needed.
Wishing all our Dad’s, Grand Dads, and Great Grand Dad’s a very Happy Father’s Day!
Your Crier,
Linda Snyder
